Our name, Hurayra, is a tribute to Abu Hurayrah, a beloved companion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), renowned in Islamic history for his affectionate bond with a cat. Abu Hurayrah (RA), whose full name is Abu Hurayrah Abd al-Rahman ibn Sakhr al-Dawsi (RA), received his nickname “The father of cats” because of his close companionship with a cat. ‘Hurayrah,’ derived from ‘Hirrah,’ the Arabic term for cat, reflects not just our respect for this endearing relationship but also directly influences our mission and values as a business dedicated to the well-being of cats everywhere.
Understanding Islamic dietary guidelines can be tricky, especially for our furry friends. It’s important to know that feeding your cat non-halal meat isn’t considered a sin in Islam. However, bringing non-halal meat into your home or purchasing it, for any reason, is contrary to halal practices. By choosing halal-certified products like Hurayra cat food, you make sure everything in your home, including your pet’s diet, aligns with your faith, giving you peace of mind and keeping your home in harmony with your Islamic values.
Some of the fussiest cats we know have tried our cat food, and they loved it! We slowly introduced our food into their diets to avoid any upset tummies and now they always choose Hurayra over their previous food.
As well as our pets, our products have been ethically tested on hundreds of cats, all of different breeds, at our manufacturing centre in Malaysia. These cats are treated like royalty and have tried every flavour available, helping us to select only the best for your furry friend.
